Women’s Empowerment: Change Your Focus Change Your Life

What you focus on expands! Author unknown

How many things have you allowed to consume your thoughts, your life, your focus?

My passion is empowering women and I see many who are allowing self-sabotage due to a lack of eliminating distractions.

One of the most detrimental things to your destiny is “broken focus.”
There are many things competing for your attention. Unless you make a
conscious decision to eliminate distractions you will lose the battle.

What is it that you’ve been giving your undivided attention to? Where is your focus?

Are you consumed by lost opportunities and are unable to move forward because you are focused on the loss?

Do you focus on fear instead of becoming confident and embracing a
lifestyle of faith? Besides as I always say your confidence in God in
you “trumps” fear.

Broken focus can be a result of a lack of vision. I know that’s a
little obvious, however, I’m not speaking of vision as in your eyesight
but your vision for life and your business.

Here are a few ways to stay focused.

Make a checklist.

I’ve become more committed to utilizing checklists in my personal and
business life. Most of my trainings include a checklist or two.
Checklists show you where you are, how much you have progressed, and
what still needs to be done in order to achieve your goal.

Emergencies happen and at times it’s hard to get back in the groove
of things. When you utilize checklists it will help bring you up to

Eliminate distraction.

I mentioned this earlier, however, this requires a section of it’s
own. Distraction is your focus’ greatest enemy. Like temptation, it is
insidious and will find all sorts of ways to mess with your
concentration. Before you even start working, you should start by
eliminating all possible sources of distraction.

Did you know that distraction can also be internal. These are those
limiting beliefs disguised as doubts and worries that do nothing to help
you reach your goal. Identify your limiting beliefs, locate the trigger
and replace with empowering beliefs. There’s more but this will get you
started on achieving laser focus.

Log out from all social networking and social messaging systems as well as Internet forums.

In short this may mean logging out of all social networking and social messaging systems including Internet forums.

Of course you’ll find great information and are able to stay connected
with your network or market by keeping yourself online, but come on,
surely your personal life or business can exist for a few hours without
being on the Twitter and Facebook zone?

Like it or not, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google+ ,
forums etc. and all other ways to communicate with people online will
only be a potential source of distraction.

If you have to, set a separate schedule for it .

Now I’m going to share with you the benefits of meditating, however,
right up front I will say that my greatest form of meditation is
meditating on the word of God.
There are studies that have proven
that meditation techniques – just like breathing exercises – are helpful
in clearing your mind and improving your focus. If the words and
figures that you are supposed to analyze are blurring right before your
eyes, it is definitely the time to meditate.

Find a quiet place to sit and close your eyes and let your mind wander freely is good enough.

Do you find that you end up sleeping instead of meditating? You might
try to position yourself for empowering meditation not sleeping
meditation which means don’t lie down. (smile)

Take a time-out but don’t lose track of time

Do you ever get overwhelmed? It’s easy to get a little burned out
when you’ve worked too hard for a few days. My advice to ladies is to
stop! Do something you absolutely enjoy.

Taking time out is good, however, you want to make sure that you time it. You can schedule a 10 –15 minute break if you’re only working a few hours. Also, know that it may not come at your prescheduled time but when you do feel the need to take time out remember to time it.

Saturate everything with prayer.

You know I can’t leave out the power of prayer to render clarity of
vision, reignite your passion and empower you to have laser focus.

Here’s one of my favorite verses
Commit your works to the Lord and He will establish your thoughts. Proverbs 16:3

What are you looking at? It’s time to redirect. Stop focusing on what
hasn’t happened and focus on your desired results. Focus on the joy of
achieving your goals. Focus on God’s goodness, His faithfulness.

Change your focus. Change your life.

Do you feel the need to go deeper with this? How would you like to be
supported in achieving laser focus and empowering

She gained clarity and focus…..

Before working with Robin in the Make it Happen 30 days of Empowerment
Coaching program, I was looking for a coach that could provide some
guidance and directions with the goals that I wanted to achieve. After
working with Robin I got more clarity on how to break down my goals and
focus on the areas that I could strengthen.  Then I could identify the
areas that I needed to work on more in depth and now I have more
confidence in pursuing the goals that I have set for bringing my Vision
to reality.  Robin has a great positive attitude and knows how to work
with her clients to help them achieve maximum results.  Thanks for all
you do Robin and may God continue to Bless you and the GREAT work you

I understand you completely. I used to use the word empower in my email address as that is who I was. I still am that person only my focus is more for myself than for others as a career. Every point you make works & are good to follow to accomplish goals.

I have a horrible time staying focused on a project. So in addition to unplugging I also listen to “focus” music. This can be classical music, meditation music, or music specifically designed for focus (focusatwill.com specializes in this – not a plug, just a great service). I’ve never been good at meditation, but plan on giving it another try. Thanks for the tips!

Great post! I started using the Bulk Message Upload in the Publisher section of Hootsuite to schedule my posts in social media. It’s been a great time saver and is allowing me to focus more on my projects. I have a day job, and stay pretty focused there, but really need to get more focused in the few evening or weekend hours I have for other projects!

  4. Hi Robin!
So coincidental that you posted this now; I’ve been really berating myself about my (lack of) time management skills, and working on how to improve my focus.
    I appreciate this post!!

  5. Great tips. Definitely writing down what you wish to accomplish is a huge help! Plus listing ways to achieve these goals and time frames may be helpful as well as long as they are realistic. Taking time outs also will save your “sanity” as well so you don’t burn out trying to work at your goals. just not too long of a break. Lastly, unplug…..this one would be hard for me and most anyone….

These are some very good, practical suggestions for keeping focused. You are so right that in today’s busy world, something bright and shiny will vie for our attention. For me, it’s social media, so I really have to just SHUT THE BROWSER!

  7. All excellent tips. I love your comment that some of our distractions can be internal, too. We women have a tendency to be so critical of ourselves that it gets in the way.

  8. I love the whole idea of unplugging. Think my level of concentration has dropped so much with IT devices.

  9. Meditation has been a big game changer for me. If I stop meditating for a few days, I really feel it in my ‘scattered focus.’ I love the Chopra Centre 21 Day meditation challenges. They’re a great way to get started.

  10. Great tips and suggestions Robin… thanks for sharing your wisdom with other women!
